Latest releases: ghost whisky, apple rum & more

It’s been a busy few weeks for new releases, including International Women’s Day beers, apple rum, ghost whisky and more.

A bespoke beer has been brewed by the female staff at Jetty Road Brewery (above) especially for International Women’s Day: Siduri Brut.

The beer has been named in honour of the wise female divinity associated with fermentation, Siduri.

An IPA at 6.2%, it takes inspiration from Brut Champagne, with the brewery describing it as “dry as a bone and packing a hop punch that says don’t muck with me. Made by women for everyone”.

Young Henry's International Women's Day

To celebrate International Women’s Day, the women of Young Henrys have presented “FREE THE NEIPA” – a New England IPA.

The limited-edition brew will launch nationally on March 6, with 10% of beer profits donated to Newtown-based women’s charity, Two Good Co.

“FREE THE NEIPA” is a hazy, complex and fun NEIPA infused with the citrusy essence of bergamot, a key player in Earl Grey tea. Mixed with a motley crew of tropical, fruit-forward hops for a juicy, session-able beer made by women, enjoyed by everyone.

Diageo has announced the Australian arrival of its final Game of Thrones whisky – Six Kingdoms Mortlach 15YO Single Malt.

The new expression joins Clynelish Reserve House Tyrell, available for the first time in Australia, as both liquids complete the official Game of Thrones Limited Edition Single Malt Scotch Whisky Collection.

Diageo has revealed its initial Game of Thrones Single Malt Scotch Whisky Collection sold out in just four weeks in Australia last year, with 70% of whisky sales to shoppers new to the category.

Angel's Envy

Angel’s Envy Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Finished in Port Wine Barrels is now available in select on-premise accounts in Australia.

It is blended in small batches of eight to twelve barrels at a time and aged for up to six years, then finished in 60-gallon ruby port wine casks made from French oak and imported directly from Portugal. The port finishing process lasts between three to six months, depending on taste.

On the nose, it offers notes of subtle vanilla, raisins, maple syrup and toasted nuts. On the palate, notes of vanilla, ripe fruit, maple syrup, toast and bitter chocolate are present before it finishes with a clean and lingering sweetness and a hint of Madeira that slowly fades.

Johnnie Walker Blue Ghost & Rare

Johnnie Walker has revealed a new, limited edition release of Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Glenury Royal.

This expression is the third in a series of special releases, encouraging consumers to ‘Discover Rarity’ via blends featuring irreplaceable “ghost whiskies”, alongside liquid from rare distilleries across Scotland.

Curated by the Johnnie Walker master blender, at the heart of the whisky lies the Highland single malt Glenury Royal, from the “ghost” distillery of the same name, which shut its doors in 1985.

Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum has announced the launch of Sailor Jerry Savage Apple, marking the brand’s first spirit innovation in almost 20 years.

According to the brand, Savage Apple “adds a bold, in-your-face flavour of fresh, lively apple – a flavour so good on its own it goes down well as a shot and, there’s no need for a chaser”.

Sailor Jerry Savage Apple is available in bars around Australia from March 3 and in all good bottle shops from June 2020, with an RRP of $52.

Hellyers Road’s Original 12 Year single malt is back on shelves.

First taken to market in 2014, the whisky’s quality and keen pricing soon found strong market favour, with available stocks gone within 18 months of release.
