Entries are now open for Wine Communicators of Australia (WCA)’s prestigious annual Wine Communicator Awards, recognising outstanding contributions to wine communication this year.

Angus Barnes, Executive Chair of the WCA, said the awards are growing despite communication in the sector becoming more challenging.

“I am delighted to announce the 2023 Wine Communicator Awards open for entries. The awards continue to grow and to celebrate the diverse contributions made to the wine industry across a number of categories and channels.

“As wine communication becomes broader and in some ways more challenging, it is increasingly important to recognise the storytelling talents across Australia. We encourage you to enter and to tell us your stories,” he said.

The 10 categories recognised in the awards include:

  • Best Wine Marketing Communications Campaign (Individual or Team)
  •  Best Wine Blog or Podcast
  •  Best Published Feature Article or Wine Column
  •  Best Wine Serial Publication
  •  Best New Wine Book
  •  Best Wine Website or App
  •  Best Wine-themed Event
  •  Best Wine Communicator – Cellar Door (Individual or Team)
  •  Best Wine Educator
  •  Best Wine Student

In each category, entries are reviewed by a panel of industry professionals and a short list of finalists is then taken to the WCA Board, and a winner is chosen. The overall Wine Communicator of the Year is then chosen from among the pool of 10 category winners.

Corrina Wright from Oliver’s Taranga in McLaren Vale, one of last year’s winners, said: “We were thrilled to have our incredible cellar door team recognised for the fabulous work that they do at the forefront of wine communication, face-to-face with the guests that visit our cellar door and many like ours all around Australia, day in day out.

“The wine, region and people stories they share at the cellar door and the experience they provide stays in the hearts and minds of our guests long after they leave the venue,” she said.

Entries close on Friday 1 September 2023. Finalists will be announced on Friday, 13 October, and winners will be announced on Tuesday 14 November, at an Awards Ceremony in Sydney.
