Tia Maria has launched a new creamy liqueur with a delicious Japanese twist – Tia Maria Matcha. Bringing a coffee shop taste to homes across Australia, Tia Maria Matcha is a uniquely fresh and indulgent liqueur with the distinctive flavours of Japanese green matcha. This new product sees the brand expanding its portfolio adding tea liqueur to join the popular coffee liqueur.

While traditionally used in a number of foods, lattes and iced teas, matcha’s versatility has seen it more recently paired with alcohol. To meet this consumer demand, the Tia Maria Matcha combines favourite flavours that results in a perfect serve.

Showcasing a subtle green pour, the new product has an ABV of 17 per cent, providing consumers with a new mindful ritual and the perfect drink of choice for every occasion. From pairing with indulgent food, relaxing at home, or enjoying a sunny day outside with friends and family, it can simply be poured over ice or as a rich ingredient in cocktails and food. With such versatility, Tia Maria Matcha’s floral and refreshing taste is for all of life’s moments.

Trent Russell, Regional Director for Illva Saronno APAC commented: “We noticed the increasing demand for matcha in food and beverage products and wanted to create an alcoholic matcha beverage. We loved creating the brand new Tia Maria Matcha and pushing the boundaries of what this versatile liqueur can do and we are incredibly excited to finally share it with the Australian market.”

Tia Maria dates back to the mid-17th century, when a beautiful young Spanish aristocrat fled Jamaica during the colonial war. Her maid saved one family treasure, a small jewellery box with black pearl earrings and an ancient manuscript with the recipe for a mysterious liqueur. The recipe was named after the courageous woman, with tia meaning ‘aunt’ in Spanish, Tia Maria was born.

The recipe lay dormant for many years before being rediscovered in the 1940s by Dr Kenneth Leigh Evans, who began to produce and market it. From this day forward Tia Maria has been a favourite for coffee liqueur lovers all over the world and was even used in the very first Espresso Martini recipe over forty years ago.

The new Tia Maria Matcha comes encased in a gorgeously glossy 700ml white bottle. Detailed with Matcha green coloured leaf illustrations. Enjoy simply on its own (served over ice) or within a signature cocktail:
