Spirits Platform Says it Has No Connection with Refined Spirits

The launch of the new online retailer Refined Spirits has caused some confusion in the market this week, with its product range closely reflecting the same portfolio available from supplier and distributor, Spirits Platform.

As reported earlier by drinks bulletin, Refined Spirits is a privately owned and operated retailer, with a product emphasis on ultra-premium Cognac, imported liqueurs and highly regarded Scotch and Irish whiskies.

The brands the online retailer has launched with include Rémy Martin, LOUIS XIII, Bruichladdich, Chartreuse, Cointreau, Disaronno, Villa Massa, The Botanist, The Irishman, Mount Gay Rum, Sierra Tequila, Opal Nera, Metaxa, Tia Maria, St-Rémy, Fiorente, Francoli Grappa, Mozart, Gin Mare, Licor 43 and Żubrówka.

The fact that Refined Spirits’ portfolio features a high proportion of the spirits available from Spirits Platform in Australia has caused many to think that the two businesses are linked. Spirits Platform CEO Ian Atherton has responded today, however, stating that the online retailer is not a part of his company.

The Statement from Atherton read:

“It seems that the misunderstanding arose due to the website’s initial offering comprising mainly our portfolio of products. However, I can assure our wholesale customers and retailers that this approach is not part of our business model.

“Refined Spirits is a totally separate organisation. I expect they will add other distributors’ brands to their line-up. It seems that the mistaken impression was created because they launched with a significant proportion of Spirits Platform brands.”

Atherton said he was happy to clarify the situation further with any wholesale customers and retailers if required.
