South Australian craft beer brewery Pirate Life has crossed borders and its on its way to launching its first Melbourne venue in the middle of 2023.

The fourth venue for the South Australian brewers will be housed in a former mechanic garage in South Melbourne.

South Australian architect and design firm Studio Gram have been enlisted to see the proecjt through.

Pirate Life Co-Founder, Jack Cameron said, “As a brand, we’ve been long-time admirers of Melbourne’s hospitality scene and Pirate Life’s new venue in South Melbourne finally gives us a chance to be part of it, while showcasing our love for people, food, and beverage. With the area boasting some of Melbourne’s – and PL’s – cult-favourite brands, we can’t wait to get amongst it and show locals what Pirate Life is all about.”

Pirate Life Brewing was established in 2014 by Michael Cameron, Jack Cameron, and Jared Proudfoot and today incorporates three venues, four breweries, and employs over 150 people nationwide.

“As you might expect, there will be plenty of beer up for grabs in the new venue, with fresh kegs shipped directly from PL’s brewery in Port Adelaide. The core range (including pales, IPAs and stouts) will fly the flag, while limited releases will be interchanged regularly to keep punters entertained. Punters can expect fruit sours, barrel-aged imperials, and a cheeky nitro or two,” said Cameron.

Meanwhile, the brewery has teamed up with St Agnes Distillery for a limited-release Christmas beer. The 7.5 per cent sour ale serves as a refreshing take on a ‘Sidecar’ cocktail and is a tasteful blend of each producers’ crafts.

Fifth generation Angove family member and Co-Managing Director at St. Agnes Distillery, Richard Angove, says: “The PL Brew team have channelled these (brandy) flavours into a truly epic beer, and we couldn’t be happier with the results: a one-off release crafted by two SA beverage icons…and just in time for Christmas!”

It’s available now from Pirate Life’s online store, the Port Adelaide Brewery and selected independent bottle shops.
