Entries for the Decanter World Wine Awards are closing soon. Now, with travel impossible, the awards present an opportunity not to be missed for global exposure in the international trade markets.
In its 18th year, the Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA) is the world’s largest and most influential wine competition. Judged by top wine experts from around the globe, the DWWA is trusted internationally for its rigorous judging process.
The contest boasts the largest global reach of any wine competition and a reach of 1+ billion consumers/ international trade around the globe via significant investment in PR and digital communications.
The House of Arras E.J. Carr Late Disgorged 2004 received Top Sparkling Wine in the prestigious contest last year. Decanter Magazine awarded it an Outstanding Classification with an impressive 96 points by the fine wine judging panel, chosen above sparkling wines from around the world, including Champagne.
At the time, winemaker Ed Carr said:
“A win like this has a global impact. A key issue for us when we started in 1995 was to make a world class sparkling wine that exhibited our House’s style as well as the Tasmanian terroir.
“While we have done exceptionally well in other wine shows, this win is the icing on the cake. We are absolutely ecstatic about the whole thing.”
Co-Chaired by Michael Hill Smith MW, Andrew Jefford and Sarah Jane Evans MW the DWWA 2021 consists of a panel of leading international judges, MW’s and Master Sommeliers. Wines are categorised for tasting by country, region, colour, grape, style, vintage, and price, to ensure that wines are judged blind in flights against their peers.
The influence on buyers is not to be underestimated. Beth Willard Buying Manager, Direct Wines UK said: “I definitely look to Decanter and the points and the medals, helping me make decisions about what to propose to my business.
“The fact that there are international wine judges, that it attracts such a broad, diverse range of wines – the standard is incredibly high. ‘Decanter’ for us to sell wines is really important so therefore when I’m buying it’s something I really look to.”

- 2 April 2021: Delivery deadline for all consolidated shipping depots (Melbourne, Adelaide & Perth)
- 6 April 2021: DWWA entry & payment deadline
- 14 – 23 June 2021: DWWA Judging Week
- 25 – 30 June 2021: DWWA Platinum Tasting
- 7 July 2021: Results announced
Entry Fees are £160 per wine (online entry), if wineries chose to participate in consolidated shipping cost is an additional £55 per wine.
