Globally renowned master of cocktails and former winner of World Class Bartender of the Year, Orlando Marzo has taken up residence at Bar Paradox, basement cocktail bar and drinking room on Flinders Lane housed beneath Melbourne’s beloved Supernormal.

Mr Marzo’s signature cocktail collection, Loro, will be central to the experience and features the Bar Paradox Bramble, a cocktail designed especially for downstairs basement bar.

“I’m super-excited to be able to work in a culinary environment so much a part of Melbourne, and use my knowledge to complement the Supernormal experience,” says Mr Marzo.

“The list will be a concise offering of five cocktails, each one meticulously crafted and served with precision to suit even the most discerning of drinkers.”

Paradox Bramble Honouring the flavours of Supernormal and staying grounded in Naarm, Marzo combines Tanqueray Royale blackcurrant gin, Australian native strawberry gum and makrut to elevate the traditional Bramble to a super-normal level.

Olive Martini A crisp clean, refined Olive Martini. Made with fresh, juniper-led gin, dry vermouth, and cold-vacuum-distilled extra virgin olive oil in place of brine.

Bergamot Negroni A contemporary interpretation of the classic recipe: London dry gin, sweet vermouth and bitters infused with Australian bergamot for a delicate, fragrant finish.

Cherry & Cacao Manhattan Locally made Solera Rye and sweet vermouth, accompanied with cacao husk, fennel seeds and preserved cherries. A deep, ripe fruit on the nose, a hint of spice on the palate, with a tropical fruit dance integrating the acidity perfectly.

Coffee Cocktail Tonka bean and fresh vanilla – think almond and baked goods – gently supported by fragrant orange and cold-brew coffee.

Designed to appease the appetite but not ruin it, a short snack menu will include a selection of raw fish from the Sapphire Coast, a prawn roll with bonito mayonnaise and Tasmanian wasabi, a silken tofu and sesame cracker with avocado, and spiced peanuts with laver.

Bar Paradox will be sound tracked by freeform selector and Efficient Space label boss Michael Kucyk (Noise In My Head), an accomplished DJ and radio host with a shared affinity for the underground.

Local multidisciplinary creative agency Space Between have developed the design and environment of Bar Paradox, conceptualising an experience within a setting that embodies comfort and quality with inquisitiveness and pleasure.
