BACARDÍ has launched a new digital ad for its namesake rum brand, shot by three flatmates while they were in lockdown.

The ‘BACARDÍ Roommates’ spot features three real New York City flatmates who answered a casting call to shoot a lockdown video.

The actors – Alina, Kiara and Raisa – served as the camera operators, set and costume designers and lighting coordinators for the commercial.

The flatmates clown around with each other, read, hang out in the kitchen, lodge themselves onto window sills, and watch the subway go by from the fire escape platform. Eventually, they’re on the roof dancing and partying to a backdrop of a New York skyline.

Marketing Director, Sarah Nichols said: “The ad illustrates how people are spending more time connecting with friends at home, even as restrictions start to ease in some states.

“It inspires people to do what moves you – even when the world stops moving, you don’t have to.”

To ensure the ad was produced safely during lockdown, a band of professionals taught the three cast members how to operate cameras and shoot the video through a series of remote video calls.

The final product was a result of 30 hours of Zoom meetings, two days of filming and 15 boxes of props.

The commercial will be live in Australia on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram over the month of August.
