CEO Steve Dononhue told the market, “First quarter sales have accelerated in our hotels, while our retail brands have continued their market leadership as we cycle the unique peaks in COVID-19 lockdowns in place at the same period last year.”

Retail sales for the first quarter were down 6.2 per cent to $2.49 billion as the business but hotel recovery has been stronger than anticipated with hotel sales for the quarter up 90.8 per cent to $538 million with good performance across all aspects : drinking, dining, gaming and accommodation.

Donohue said that the group is positioning its ALH venues as the place to connect with friends and family over the Christmas and summer period.

“With all consumers feeling the impact of inflation, we remain focused on ensuring we are a destination of choice for locals seeking a welcoming and affordable place to socialise with family and friends,” he said.

Pre-bookings for Christmas celebrations to date are double what they were at this same time last year.

“Our hotels are thriving, as Australians embrace both large and small occasions after years of COVID-19 disruption. There has been a rebound across all hospitality categories…Live entertainment is also becoming a feature of our business again, with music fans enjoying a range of sold out gigs across our hotels.”

Mr Donohue also said that patrons to the venues are enjoying the convenience of the tap and pay platform in ALH’s venues. (This is provided by me&u.)
