Pubs and clubs are throwing their support behind drought-stricken farmers this weekend with the Let It Pour fundraiser.

Great Northern is donating 1000 kegs to venues across NSW, Queensland, Victoria and South Australia for the three-day event.

Great Northern General Manager Mick McKeown said venues will host Let it Pour events from Friday, August 24 until Sunday, August 26. The brewer has tipped in $250,000 to the campaign and hopes to raise $1 million.

“It’s the Australian way to help a mate when things are tough and 1000 pubs and clubs across Australia are committing to help our farming mates through a very trying time,” McKeown said.

“Regional Australia has supported Great Northern since day one and this weekend it’s time for us to help give back.”

He said regional Australia had supported Great Northern since day one and now it was time to give back.

“We are a big part of regional Australia and are going to let it pour as communities rally together to help our farmers.”

The Criterion in Brisbane’s CBD was among the first pubs to register for the campaign.

Pub owner Nick Kalaf said the influx of country people to Brisbane for the Royal Queensland Show this week was a reminder to city dwellers of the harsh realities of life in the bush.

“We are really proud to take part in Let it Pour and think it’ll be a really popular event with our customers,” he said. “We need to get together and help.”

All sales proceeds from the 1000 donated kegs will be given to the Drought Relief Fund, administered by Rotary Australia.
