Winemaking icon Grant Burge has proudly mentored his children during the creation of their new Corryton Burge label.

“It’s a thrilling new venture, filled with passion and innovation – and I’m so proud of what they have achieved thus far,” Burge said.

Sixth generation winemakers Trent and Amelia Burge are releasing an entry level Kith collection of Riesling, Pinot Gris and Shiraz and a premium Kin offering of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Winemaker Trent and marketing professional Amelia (below) have celebrated the family property, Corryton Park Homestead, with the brand’s name.

Corryton Burge

Built in 1845, Corryton Park nestles among the gently undulating hills of Eden Valley and is guarded by a pair of carved stone griffins.

“Steeped in history yet very much alive in the present, it is a setting synonymous with sharing the joy of wine with family and friends…which we believe makes it particularly fitting that the name is celebrated in our new release and the griffins enjoy pride of place on the labels,” Amelia explained.

In creating the ranges, the siblings have been guided by the twin philosophies that wine is a simple pleasure that brings families and friends together, and if you wish to create a memorable drop, you must be true to the variety.

Their ethos ‘sharing the joy of wine’ sees the Kith Eden Valley Riesling, Adelaide Hills Pinot Gris and Barossa Shiraz honour those ‘extended family’ members inseparable from the Burge history and the Corryton Burge future, while the Kin range – comprising The Patroness Adelaide Hills Chardonnay, Cornelian Bay

Tasmania Pinot Noir and The Brigadier Barossa Cabernet Sauvignon – pays homage to the Burge’s roots.

Its Chardonnay honours their community-minded grandmother Ethel Nancy, the Pinot Noir celebrates mother Helen’s birthplace and childhood home and the family’s special bond with Tasmania, and the Cabernet Sauvignon plays on Grant’s passion as an amateur war historian and his leading role in determining the ideal Barossan microclimate for this variety.

They have also carefully selected grape growing regions and individual vineyards – both those of the Burge family’s 300 hectares of vines in southern and central Barossa and across the Adelaide Hills, as well as a network of 20 growers throughout Australia – to best express each varietal.

Trent and Amelia have lent on the winemaking expertise of Matthew Pellew and Andrew Cockram, chief winemaker, and winemaker respectively at the Burge family’s Illaparra Winery.

The brand is being launched into the Australian market with Oatley Fine Wine Merchants (OFWM).

“As we’re looking to build on generations of winemaking passion that has established the Burge name as one of the most respected and recognised in Australian wine, it is important that we partner with an equally passionate and dedicated business,” Trent said.

“And in OFWM as Australia’s fastest growing national distributor of local and international wines to the trade, we are confident they will help us to achieve our goals in the independent retail and on-premise channels.”

The Kith Range has a RRP of $28 and includes a Pinot Gris, Riesling, Shiraz. The Kin Range has an RRP of $45 and includes The Patroness Chardonnay, Cornelian Bay Pinot Noir, The Brigadier Cabernet Sauvignon.
