Being U.G.L.Y. in Barrow Creek

If you are surfing the internet to find out what’s happening in Barrow Creek, NT you will find that travellers share a helpful tip to see Mike, Mick and Michael at Barrow Creek Hotel.

The cheeky and vivacious Michael Romeo (like the car) goes by many names, but the Leukaemia Foundation knows him as an U.G.L.Y. champion. Michael is in his 6th year as an U.G.L.Y. and over the years he has raised over $4,500. If you have ever visited this iconic roadside pub, you will recall the amount of souvenirs, tokens and mementos that line the walls, floors and even ceilings of the interior of the pub, with 162 different currencies decorating the walls.

Amongst the Barrow Creek Hotel treasures, you will find his U.G.L.Y. Chase the Ace game, Floating Lemon Challenge (sometimes using a lime, just to mix things up) and U.G.L.Y. wristbands on display. These activities, as well as donating his own tips, are how Michael achieves his fundraising goal. He is humble on how much he has raised so far, but the Leukaemia Foundation knows that every dollar raised counts and makes a difference to the lives of families that are affected by blood cancer.

Cheers to you, Michael Romeo, for the 57 nights you have raised for the U.G.L.Y. Bartender of the Year and to all the other other U.G.L.Y. Bartenders across Australia. Register now to join them at www.uglybartender.org.au.
