With international Women’s Day now only 23 days away, the Australian Women in Wine (AWIW) is offering free shipping and buy-five-get-the-sixth-free promotions on its Hear Me Roar gin, with 100% of the profits to be reinvested in the AWIW. Hear Me Roar is the only gin in the world where all profits go to help women to flourish and succeed in their chosen wine industry professions.

The current batch, released shortly prior to Christmas, is the second edition of the Hear Me Roar gin, following its successful 2022 release and the 2019 release of the Hear Me Roar Shiraz. The brand name itself is a reference to the iconic 1971 Helen Reddy song that quickly became adopted as a rallying cry for gender-related social change.

The recipe for the gin was chosen by leading Australian female distillers, who were asked to submit ingredients and recipes they wanted to see included. The winning recipe was submitted by Tracy Taylor of Tasmania’s Southwood Vineyards for her suggested combination of blackcurrant leaf, native finger lime and Tasmanian pepperberry.

Tracy Taylor’s recipe was then distilled by Rebekah Richardson, AWIWA Board member, winemaker and owner/distiller of Lucid Distilling.

“We have been absolutely blown away by the wine industry support of the Hear Me Roar project,” said Richardson.

“The gin was a bit left of centre, given we are women in wine, but we know most of us love a good gin, and it has been nice to do something a bit different.

“We’ve brought it back by popular demand.”

Women represent just under 30 per cent of professionals across all areas of the wine industry, highlighting a significant gender disparity.

At senior levels, this representation drops to less than ten per cent. And production roles, like winemaking sit at just 17 per cent.

The Hear Me Roar gin is available for $110 from the Australian Women in Wine website and is a purchase that is easy to feel good about, both due to the high quality product and due to it supporting a very worthy cause.
