A Melbourne businessman is out to prove Aussies can make Scotch … with balls.

Multimillionaire David Prior, who bought the 200-year-old Blandoch distillery in Scotland in 2015 and released his Pure Scot brand earlier this year, has launched his first online ads and social media campaign.

The new ad features a Scottish barman serving a measure of Pure Scot with two round ice cubes to Prior, who turns to camera and says “I’d guess you’d call is Scotch with balls”.

Prior is hoping the ad will have cut through in the crowded whisky market.

“I’m damn proud of this,” told Executive Style last year. “It is trying to bring a more modern interpretation to a category that has a lot of history attached and a lot of provenance to it, but in a young and more accessible way.

“It’s a highly adaptable, versatile, contemporary-tasting product, not smoked, it’s really for the younger consumer.”

Prior made his money from yogurt, founding the five:am brand, before turning his attention to his next great love – whisky.

“It’s been a passion of mine for a long time; I grew up in family that has always drunk Scotch. My father and I would get together at the end of the week for a bit of debrief over a Scotch. It’s always had a sense of occasion attached to it,” he said.
