Australian Liquor Marketers (ALM) has bought Porter’s Liquor and announced plans to expand the chain from 30 to 100 stories nationally.

All current staff will remain with the company.

ALM, Metcash’s liquor pillar, has two divisions: ALM and Independent Brands Australia (IBA).

Porter’s will become one of the brands under IBA alongside Cellarbrations, IGA Liquor, Bottle-O and Bottle-O Neighbourhood.

ALM has been performing strongly for Metcash. While the company’s recently published half-year results showed a 4% drop in group earnings before interest and tax (EBIT), down to $128.1m, the liquor business EBIT was up 5% to $27.1m.
