16th Len Evans Tutorial Scholars Announced

The Len Evans Tutorial has announced the 12 successful applicants for its 16th course, to be held in the Hunter Valley this October 31st to November 4th.

The Tutorial, conceived by the late Len Evans AO OBE, is an exclusive wine course held annually in the Hunter Valley over the course of five days. Selected scholars are exposed to the demands of wine show judging – from master classes, to blind tastings and judging sessions – alongside some of Australia’s top wine experts.

Scholars of the tutorial prove successful in the industry, often going on to judge at major national wine shows. Leading wine critic and trustee of the Lens Evans Foundation, James Halliday, describes the Lens Evans Tutorial as “the most exclusive wine school in the world”.

This year’s students represent the Australia’s extraordinary calibre of scholars, including prominent wine and viticulture professionals. Full list as follows:

  • Ramon Arnavas – Head Sommelier at Stokehouse Brisbane

  • Simon Black – Winemaker at Montalto Vineyard & Olive Grove

  • Penny Jones – Winemaker/Manager at Bay of Fires

  • Paul Beaton – Head Sommelier at Aria Restaurant

  • Wes Pearson – Senior Scientist at Australian Wine Research Institute
