The San Francisco International Wine Competition (SFIWC) has awarded the Cat Amongst the Pigeons Eden Valley Riesling 2020 the ‘Best in Class’ trophy in the Riesling category and awarded it a Double Gold medal.

In total, seven medals were awarded to Cat Amongst The Pigeons wines at the SFIWC, including a Gold for Cat Amongst The Pigeons Fat Cat Eden Valley Riesling ($29) and Cat Amongst The Pigeons Barossa Cabernet Sauvignon ($21).

SFIWC is the largest international wine show in the United States, where experts judge thousands of wines from around the world.

“To receive recognition on the international stage and at such a prestigious show is a great reward for the entire team,” said winemaker Richard Quodling.

The wine was put forward by Pinnacle Drinks, the supplier arm of Endeavour Group which sources and supplies wines for the company’s retail brands including BWS and Dan Murphy’s.

In total, Pinnacle Drinks wines were awarded 31 medals awarded in SFIWC, and three of them were Double Golds: Cat Amongst the Pigeons Eden Valley Riesling 2020, Champagne Duperrey Brut 2012 and The Advocate Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2018. The Double Gold is awarded to the very few entries that receive Gold medal ratings from all members of the judging panel.

The number of accolades its wines received resulted in Pinnacle Drinks receiving a trophy for Best Portfolio of the Year, one of the top three awards of the entire show.

“We are so proud of these results, as we are passionate about supplying customers with award-winning, high quality wines,” said Pinnacle Drinks Director Paul Walton.

This award continues a great run of wine show success for the Cat Amongst the Pigeon range, with the wines winning 83 medals and trophies in 2020 alone.

Cat Among the Pigeons Riesling is currently on special at BWS for $15 per bottle* in a two for $30 offer .

Last Friday, Pinnacle Drinks was also awarded two trophies for best South Australian Shiraz and Barossa Shiraz in the International Wine Challenge for its 2018 Krondorf Old Salem Barossa Shiraz.

The Cat Amongst the Pigeons range is available exclusively through BWS and Dan Murphy’s.

In its 40th year, the San Francisco International Wine Competition is one of the world’s longest-running international wine competitions; it was founded in 1980 as a way to determine and award exceptional domestic and international wines.
