A new distillery is poised to invigorate the central Gold Coast scene when it debuts this month. Founded by Gold Coast natives Chris Macklin and Teagan Peake, Six-Tricks Distilling Co. is an all-encompassing rum and whiskey distillery, tasting room, and cocktail bar that will unlock its doors on the 18th of November.
Nestled in an unassuming cul-de-sac overlooking the Broadbeach skyline, Six-Tricks pays homage to the craft of rum and whisky, making local spirit from scratch at its two new state-of-the-art facility.
“We want to offer locals and visitors to the Gold Coast an immersive distillery and drinks experience, with education at the forefront, so our guests can be a part of the journey and understand the process from raw ingredients to exceptionally crafted cocktails,” says Macklin.
“We are proudly a local business, and our onsite production is the heartbeat of our venue,” says Chris. “Not only does this allow us to take full control of our production process, but it also gives us the freedom to infuse our spirits with creativity before delivering them to the market.”
Six-Tricks has invested over $2 million in transforming its distillery and tasting room, a year-long endeavour that has resulted in the creation of an innovative space where enthusiasts can explore their range of unique spirits. Additionally, the company recently secured a second warehouse dedicated to aging rum and whiskey barrels.
With a spacious indoor bar, a sunset deck, and a private cask hall, the venue accommodates 100 spirits enthusiasts and cocktail connoisseurs alike. “We take immense pride in our commitment to artisan craftsmanship as we create exceptional spirits and showcase them in a premium and upscale environment,” Chris emphasizes. “Our talented mixologists craft soda, syrups, and tinctures from scratch, and to top it off, we use garnishes grown in our onsite garden.”
Chris mentions that their head bartender/mixologist, with over 14 years of experience in the dynamic hospitality industry, is poised to introduce a “fresh outlook” to the Gold Coast bar scene. “Our head bartender, James, brings an arsenal of inspiration, promising to introduce an exciting blend of tastes and styles that will captivate local palates. He has worked across a diverse portfolio of live music venues, high-energy dive bars, restaurants with outstanding drink programs, and cozy, specialized cocktail bars and wine locales. Through his extensive experience, he has absorbed a rich tapestry of flavours and techniques, which has ignited a deep passion for innovation in his field. From the distillation process of our spirits to the mixology mastery behind our bar, the magic will happen right here for all to see.”
