Wolf Lane Navy Strength Gin has been named the world’s best at The Gin Guide Awards 2020.

The Cairns gin also won the Best in Australasia trophy at the awards.

Now in its 4th year, The Gin Guide Awards is an independent, global celebration of the historic, diverse and growing gin industry.

The winners are selected through a rigorous blind tasting process conducted by a large panel of distinguished gin experts, distillers, retailers and mixologists.

Each gin’s appearance, aroma, flavour, mouthfeel, finish and overall quality and market appeal are assessed to determine the highest scoring gins, based purely on the spirit itself and with no influence from branding or marketing.

“We are very proud of our Navy Strength Gin and it is a favourite within our team,” said owner Darren Barber.

“Our Navy Strength Gin really represents what our gin is all about, celebrating the tropics and the beautiful Far North Queensland region in which our distillery is situated.

“It is so humbling to win not just one but two awards in The Gin Guide Awards and also complete on a global scale. Our gin is made from start to finish in our little distillery based in Cairns, while using as many local botanicals as possible, including locally grown ruby grapefruit, ginger, limes and mangoes.”

“We are really looking forward to what the futures holds for our gin and can’t wait to see Wolf Lane Distillery Gin in bars across the world very soon.”

Singapore’s Tanglin Orchid Gin became the first Asian gin to win a category at The Gin Guide Awards and Verdigris Gin from The National Distilling Company achieved the same feat for New Zealand as a winner of the Contemporary Gin category.

Head Judge Paul Jackson, the Founder and Editor of The Gin Guide, said: “The quality and diversity of gins has been remarkable. British gins and international gins alike showed the depth of skill in distillation and product development that exists in the industry.

“Gins from unexpected and emerging markets hugely impressed the esteemed judges and showed that gin can truly cross borders and be an exciting product in markets across the world.

“With Australia being such a rapidly growing gin market that’s increasingly recognised across the world, this has really helped put Australia on the global gin map and impressed the global spirits industry.

“It’s more recognition for Australian gin from The Gin Guide after the hugely successful Australian Gin Day in 2019, which will return on November 21, 2020.”
