Qantas staff stood down during COVID-19 have started working at Dan Murphy’s stores.

Woolworths Group announced last month that it would hire up to 20,000 new staff across its supermarkets, e-commerce, supply chain and drinks businesses in Australia, with up to 5000 short-term roles offered to Qantas Group employees.

“You might have noticed an extra warm welcome when visiting Dan’s lately,” Endeavour Group noted.

“That’s because some of our fabulous friends from Qantas have started to work at Dan’s.

“Our companies have these two things in common. We put our team first and we put our customers first. Oh and we both love good wine.

“Happy to have you on board with us Qantas, temporarily that is, until you are back in the skies.”

Endeavour shared a picture on LinkedIn of international cabin crew member Kathryn Ling with a fellow staffer at Dan Murphy’s Menai store in NSW (above).

“Thanks to the team at Dan Murphy’s for taking us in,” Ling said. “It’s not the same as being in the sky, but we are grateful for the opportunity to support the community and happy to help in any way we can.”

Woolworths Group CEO Brad Banducci noted: “These are uncertain times for many industries and we have an important role to play keeping Australians employed through this crisis.

“These new roles will not only help us better serve the increase in demand we’re seeing in stores right now, but also allow us to scale up home delivery operations in the months ahead.

How Endeavour Group is maintaining social distancing

Endeavour Drinks has installed protective plexiglass screens at more than 1500 Dan Murphy’s and BWS stores to help social distancing between customers and store teams.

BWS social distancing

“We commissioned three factories to make the screens, so we could get them done as quickly as possible,” said Steve Donohue, Managing Director of Endeavour Drinks.

Each store also has a reduced maximum capacity of customers who can be inside the store at once, and a limit on the number of customers who can be inside cool rooms. When maximum customer count is reached, a one in one out rule will apply. Dan Murphy’s and BWS are also encouraging customers to pay with card instead of cash wherever possible.
