Maybe Sammy wins Best Australasian Bar for second year in a row

Sydney’s Maybe Sammy has won the title of Best Australasian Bar for the second year running in the World’s Best 50 Bars, ranked 22nd on the list of the Top 50 and placing just ahead of Cantina OK! which came in at 23rd – no small feat for the bar in Sydney’s CBD  with standing room for just twenty.

The world’s first no-waste bar, Sydney’s Re, entered the list for the first time at 46th, and collected the Ketel
One Sustainable Bar Award following an audit by Food Made Good Global.

Melbourne’s Above Board also ranked in the top 50 at 44th with Byrdi just out of the Top 50, coming in 56th position.

London took the top two spots of the Best 50 with Connaught Bar placing at first and receiving The Best Bar in Europe for the second year in a row, with Tayēr + Elementary second.

Salmon Guru (pictured above right) in Madrid is ranked 24th and won the Michter’s Art of Hospitality Award. Over 600 industry experts were asked to name the bar where they received the single best hospitality experience, and Salmon Guru, described as “one of the most revolutionary bars in the world”, came out on top to win the award. 

Madrid’s top destination bar, Salmon Guru is known for its quirky cocktails and five-star service. The stellar team, led by founder Diego Cabrera, creates curious concoctions which push boundaries of what’s possible with cocktails, alongside unique moments for guests to enjoy throughout their entire experience at the bar. 

Lynnette Marrero of Llama Inn, New York, and co-founder of Speed Rack won of the Altos Bartenders’ Bartender Award, voted for by the bartenders at the venues on this year’s list of The World’s 50 Best Bars, who are asked to name one peer who pushes the boundaries of what it means to be a great bartender.

This year is the thirteenth of The World’s 50 Best Bars, sponsored by Perrier, and the World’s 50 Best Bars were announced at a live awards ceremony on Tuesday in London, UK followed by a press conference joined by media from right around the world.
