The Hunter Valley has taken over from New Zealand’s Marlborough wine region as the number one wine region represented on New South Wales wine lists, with 7.8 per cent of all listings, up 21 per cent on last year.

Listings from NSW Wines were up 6 per cent on last year, being the only state to show growth and the Hunter Valley led this charge to become the ninth top Australian listed on wine lists nationally, up 13.5 per cent on last year.

The results were announced in the latest Wine Business Solutions Wine On-Premise Report 2015, which reviews wine lists from all over Australia.

Along with Orange, white wines from the Hunter valley were the only Australian wine regions to show growth on Australian wine lists at a time when imported wines were up 37 per cent on last year.

White wines from the Hunter Valley were the fourth most listed in the country with semillon listings accounting for 13 per cent growth and verdelho listings were up 7 per cent.

While overall chardonnay listings were down 19 per cent, Hunter Valley chardonnay listings were up 21 per cent across wine lists nationally.

Shiraz listings were down nationally 21 per cent in the wake of emerging and imported red wine varietals, however Hunter Valley shiraz rose by an enormous 109 per cent to become the fourth most listed shiraz region on Australian wine lists.

Overall the Hunter Valley saw an increase in red wine listings of 45 per cent.
