Cellarmasters is celebrating its 35th anniversary by teaming up with four award-winning wine makers to produce a South Australian Shiraz.
The Dorrien Estate 35th Anniversary South Australia Shiraz 2016 is a blend of four parcels of Shiraz from four different regions in South Australia – Coonawarra, Clare Valley, McLaren Vale and Langhorne Creek. The wine is made by Matt Reimann, Nigel Dolan (pictured above), Neil Doddridge and Pat Vasarelli.
Ben Copeman-Hill, General Manager of Cellarmasters, said: “The Cellarmasters Anniversary Shiraz showcases not only the incredible skills of each winemaker and the unique characters of each region, but it tells the story of the secret behind Cellarmasters’ success, which is our relationships with wine makers and grape growers.”
Copeman-Hill noted that although the wine varieties Aussies like to drink have somewhat changed over the last 35 years – in the 1980s, we were drinking oaked Chardonnay and sweet whites, while today we are after fresher wine styles like Sauvignon Blanc and Rosé – Shiraz was and has remained Australia’s most popular wine variety.
“Shiraz seems to be increasing in popularity every year, and is the variety Australia is internationally renowned for, so it was a natural choice to use Shiraz when making our anniversary wine,” he said.
Cellarmasters was founded in 1982, and consisted of four people working together in a tiny office in Bondi Junction. The business founders had an idea to make the experience of buying wine more authentic and help customers discover the stories behind every wine.
The goal was then and has since been to connect wine lovers directly with wine makers and grape growers. This ‘grape to glass’ concept also made it possible for Cellarmasters to deliver wine straight to customers’ doorsteps – back then, home delivery was quite a new notion.
