Benriach Distillery has unveiled its oldest and most exclusive whisky to date: the Benriach 1966 Cask Aged 50 Years.
The 50 year old whisky has been made from a single bourbon cask that was filled with unpeated Benriach spirit on 21 September 1966. The cask was handpicked to become the oldest remaining vintage and rarest ever example of Benriach whisky due to its distinctive character.
“I am proud to present Benriach 1966 Cask Aged 50 Years as our ultimate treasure,” said Dr Rachel Barrie, Benriach’s Master Blender.
“Sip 50 years of opulent refinement with notes of sublime honeyed dates and delicate oak spices in harmony with the lingering finesse of apple, pear and traces of grapefruit.”
The new release, which falls shortly ahead of World Whisky Day this Saturday, is Benriach’s first whisky aged 50 years. Only 37 limited edition bottles have been crafted, which collectively offer whisky lovers worldwide the pinnacle expression of Benriach’s signature fruit-forward style.
According to Barrie, “at Benriach Distillery, our ability to nurture flavour has been informed by our heritage in maturing an array of casks from across the world, alongside our creative philosophy and exploratory approach towards whisky making.
“This is our art - a testament to the expertise in and commitment to extraordinary cask maturation at Benriach Distillery.”
Each Benriach 1966 Cask Aged 50 Years will be bottled in bespoke crystal decanters made in Scotland by Glasstorm.
From June, an extremely limited number of the 37 bottles produced will be made available for purchase in Australia from select retailers at an RRP of $48,000.
