GAYLE is Australia’s latest equality company, igniting conversation about the marriage equality debate.

The handcrafted beer and cider brand hails from Adelaide and will be launched this week. Its four founders were inspired by the belief that communities can be united through he “quintessentially Australian” act of sharing a few beers with mates.

“There are plenty of ways people can show their support for the LGBTIQ community, their friends and family, drinking GAYLE is one way of doing that, says co-founder Virginia Buckworth.

“We are proud to be Australia’s first and only independently owned gay beer and cider Company,” the company notes on its website.

“When you crack open a can of Gayle it’s a chance to join our voices together and ‘cheers’ to our past and future; a toast to being able to ‘love’ without restrictions at a time when the LGBTIQA+ community need it most.

“Our unique brew is a nod to our community’s sense of pride and a cause for acceptance as we stand together and embrace diversity, equality and self-expression.

“At the very heart of Gayle is a call to action, to love one another and to celebrate the power and beauty of diversity.”

GAYLE will sponsor a range of LGBTQIA events throughout Australia and donate a percentage of the profits.

It will be officially launched at the 2017 Feast Festival, Adelaide’s queer and culture festival starting in just a few days (11-26 November).

GAYLE will also be the official sponsor of the 2018 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.

Its current beverage options include:

Cider:
This Cloudy Apple Cider is made from 100% Pink Lady apples grown in the Hills of Adelaide. It is barrel fermented using wild yeast and then packaged hazy with soft carbonation. It’s not too sweet and not too dry – it’s just right!

Gayle cider is independently owned by Gayle, made exclusively by a primary South Australian cider producer.

Who would have guessed that drinking could make you more politically active?

GAYLE isn’t the only company that’s drawing a connection between social drinking and activism.

The act of sharing a few with mates is definitely a fantastic opportunity to start conversations, especially with a unique can in your hand.

Earlier this year, Sparkke Change Beverage Co. ignited the activism and alcohol trend.

Also launched in Adelaide, the female run alcohol company creates a range of different activist beers, ciders and wines, with its Say I Do! wine cans among the most popular.

“As a queer woman who came out at the age of 14, I can speak from personal experience about what it’s like to grow up feeling marginalised. Our marriage equality message is based on Sparkke’s core values of universal fairness, inclusion and social equity,” Sparkke winemaker Sarah Lyons told New Matilda.

“It’s fantastic to campaign for the rights of all Australians to marry if they wish to – regardless of their gender or sexuality – and at the same time to produce a great fizz in a can.”
