We’re not sure if you can find something more quintessentially Australian than die-hard cricket fan club, The Richies, partnering with Hawke’s Brewing Co. to make this summer’s cricket season even better.

The partnership will see Hawke’s Brewing Co’s beer – created with former Aussie Prime Minister Bob Hawke – help stage The Richies’ famous pre-match events in every Ashes city, as well as collaborate on several activations throughout this year’s “marvellous summer of cricket”.

The Richies, who formed nearly a decade ago, now have a strong army of 1500 dedicated cricket fans who assemble on Day 2 of each Australia’s home test matches wearing ‘cream, bone white, off-white, ivory and beige’ to pay tribute to the late great Australian Channel 9 commentator Richie Benaud.

Co-founder of The Richies Michael Hennessy says the club was excited to first establish a relationship with Bob Hawke about three years ago at the Sydney Ahses.

“The Richies’ history with Bob Hawke probably began on day two of the Sydney Ashes in 2014, when we handed him a beer at the SCG, and he handed us back an empty cup,” said Hennessy.

“It’s since been one of the most talked about moments within The Richies community, so to now get the support of his beer company Hawke’s Brewing Co. is a huge thrill, particularly as we head into our biggest summer yet.”

The Richies have high hopes for another beer-cricket bonding session with Bob Hawke.

Co-founder of Hawke’s Brewing Co., Nathan Lennon, adds: “Bob has always been a passionate supporter of Australian cricket and he was incredibly excited to hear that Hawke’s Brewing Co. is teaming up with The Richies, who are about as passionate as it gets. I’m sure he’d love to have a beer again with the boys, should the chance arise.”

The partnership will officially kick off this Friday November 24 at the Story Bridge Hotel in Brisbane, before The Richies attend “Day 2 Richie Day” at the First Ashes Test held at the Gabba.

Hawke’s Brewing Co., which was only established earlier this year, has already partnered with over 30 pub venues across Australia – including The Breakfast Creek Hotel (Brisbane), The Coogee Bay Hotel (Sydney), The Clovelly Hotel (Sydney), The Prince (Sydney) and The Swan Hotel (Melbourne) – all of which will be pouring Hawke’s Lager on tap in support of The Richies partnership throughout the summer. Cheers!
