The accolades keep rolling in for Pirate Life’s Mosaic IPA – it’s taken out Champion Packaged Beer at the 2018 Sydney Royal Beer & Cider Awards.

Produced by the Adelaide-based brewery acquired last year by CUB, Mosaic IPA also recently won Champion Beer at the annual Perth Royal Beer Awards.

The beer was initially a one-off – brewed for Pirate Life’s second anniversary – but proved so popular, the company decided to take it to market.

“The Mosaic has been a nice little project for us, moving away from brewing a more balanced beer with malt IPA to a beer that is 100 per cent focused on the hops,” co-founder Red Proudfoot told The Adelaide Advertiser.

“We are a pretty hoppy brewery but this really, really simple malt brew really shines, the Mosaic hops shine through.

CUB also scored two additional Gold medals for its Pure Blonde Ultra Low Carb Lager and Carlton Black Dark Ale.

Here is the full list of trophy winners from the 2018 Sydney Royal Beer & Cider Awards:

Champion Packaged Beer – Pirate Life Brewing – Mosaic IPA

Champion Draught Beer – Lord Nelson Brewery – Nelspresso Brown Ale

Champion Experimental or Specialty Beer – Hope Brewhouse – Barrel Aged Extra Stout

Best NSW Beer – Australian Brewery – Australian Seis Hermanos

Champion Cider – Flying Brick Cider Co – Flying Brick Original Cider

“It is a very strong growth industry within Australia and I think the influence of established brewers such as ourselves who are 100% natural and obviously using Australian malted barley and supporting the country’s needs augurs well for the industry in this country,” managing director of Sydney’s Lord Nelson Brewery Blair Hayden told Brews News.

“The quality of the beers we are getting through is just incredible, to the point that if brewers don’t reach a certain marking standard, judges become a little annoyed that you have made them drink that beer,” the chair of the Sydney Royal Beer and Cider Awards, Neal Cameron, said. “The quality of ciders was also exemplary this year,”

The gold medallists were:

Australian Brewery Seis Hermanos
