Births & Deaths Bar in Wollongong’s CBD has debuted the most insanely Aussie cocktail on its menu: the Milton Mango.

The sustainably minded bar noted on Instagram that it was “the drink nobody asked for but you never knew you needed in your life”.

The drink contains mango-infused Bundaberg Rum, XXXX Gold and eucalyptus honey reduction, Px sherry, mango milk and a garnish of Vegemite toast.

The bar went on to say: “Named after the colloquial name for the XXXX Gold can, it’s the colour of a ripe Queensland mango and brewed in the suburb of Milton in Brisbane.

“This cocktail has all things Australian … Bundy rum, beer, mangoes and Vegemite – what more could you ask for?

“The drink is clarified using the mango milk to leave an almost silky mouth feel that sticks to the palate, complemented by a warm piece of Vegemite toast!”

Another ultra Aussie cocktail on the menu is the Green Ant Old Fashioned with Adelaide Hills Green Ant Gin, Capi native tonic reduction, native Tasmanian pepperberry and lemon myrtle; not to mention the Riverside Mo’fo with Mt Uncle Botanic Australis Gin, native rivermint and lime.

The Births & Deaths bar opened in Kembla Street, Wollongong in late 2018.

The venue’s owners are Jared Huk, Ben Abraham, Scott Miletto and Luke Symons, who also own Howlin’ Wolf Bar and Dagwood Bar + Kitchen in Wollongong. All venues are part of the Good Times Only Group, which includes Miletto’s Washington & Co whiskey saloon in Orange.

“The name comes from a twofold approach,” Huk told Cocktails & Bars. “Firstly we are situated at 2/74 Kembla St which is the old registry of births, deaths and marriages building. Secondly, it’s part of our sustainability ethos, the births and deaths of ingredients. We reuse waste from our drinks and food to make ingredients for other drinks.”
