We’ve Got Your Back Sista

The Women in drinks International Women’s Day Luncheon is proudly supporting the “Got Your Back Sista” special project during International Women’s Week – 7th to 13th March 2016 – to help women and children who have escaped domestic violence start their lives again.

For the event, the Women in drinks Board Members are asking for donations of clothing and other household for The Sista Code’s Got Your Back Sista campaign, which distributes the items to a variety of women’s refuges.

Items greatly appreciated include:

  • New and high-quality second hand clothes

  • New household items, such as toasters and other products

  • New linen

  • New towels

  • Toiletries

  • Socks

  • Suitcases and overnight bags to pack the donated items in

With 63,632 reported cases of domestic violence in Australia last year, and thousands and thousands of cases that have not been reported, domestic violence has reached epidemic proportions.

For such a large number of domestic violence victims, there are 350 beds in government run women’s refuges in NSW plus additional beds in private women’s refuges. A woman and her children may stay in a refuge for a few days or months and then must look to start her life again, hopefully re-established in a new, safe home.

Women and children that are escaping to a refuge often arrive with nothing but the clothes on their back.

They literally must start again.

Women in drinks are proud to be supporting The Sista Code’s ‘Got Your Back Sista’ charity and this International Women’s Week initiative, in an effort to help another Sista and her children to start again – a new beginning, a new life.
