The highly anticipated all-Australian single malt whisky release from Renmark’s Twenty Third Street Distillery has gone on sale.

The limited-edition spirit has already won Gold at the 2019 World Whisky Awards under the Australian Single Malt category.

“We’re very proud that Twenty Third Street Distillery’s Single Malt Whisky was one of only three Australian Single Malt Whiskies to be awarded Gold at the World Whisky Awards,” said Chris Illman, Group Sales and Marketing Manager of Bickford’s Group.

“We’re seeing steady growth in the Whisky category, attributed to strong consumer trends towards premium spirits. Our Single Malt Whisky marks the first of our Australian Whisky releases, with more iterations planned.”

Using Queensland sourced, single variety Australian barley known for its quality and purity, Twenty Third Street Distillery also collaborated with Byron Bay’s Stone & Wood Brewing Co to develop the whisky wash, specifically seeking a light, fruity style of whisky.

After malting, mashing and fermentation, the liquid was copper pot distilled then set down in majority ex- bourbon oak barrels until the Master Distiller gave it the golden seal of approval.

The result is an amber hued whisky with a layered palate of citrus peel, spice, warm toffee and buttery length, finished with dried fig and cedar aromas.

“Our limited-edition Single Malt Whisky is a non-replicable blend,” said Twenty Third Street Distillery’s Master Distiller, Graham Buller.

“Being in the Riverland, we’re in an advantageous position for producing superior whisky, with our warm climate and unique ageing techniques, we’re able to gently accelerate maturation and character development to produce exceptional spirits.”

Twenty Third Street Distillery’s Single Malt Whisky is so unique that only 4200 bottles have been produced. It’s available online, from selected retailers and from the distillery in Renmark.
