The 2020 Australian Drinks Awards pivoted this year to focus on the Supplier Category with four trophies being awarded: Supplier of the Year, Most Improved Supplier of the Year, Supply Chain Management and the new Category Management Award.

The awards were determined using data results from the industry-wide engagement survey conducted by Advantage Australia.

“The traits that most describe Diageo are focus and consistency,” said John McLoughlin (above), Managing Director APAC at the Advantage Group.

“Focus because every year this business sets out to be a retailer centric business that excels in engaging its business partners and consistency because time and time again this business returns a top third performance in our engagement program.”

Diageo also took out the new Category Management Award.

“I like to think of category management as the common language that both retailers and suppliers speak,” McLoughlin explained.

“We know from our data that the skills of building insightful category development plans are highly valued by retailers and as such this is a key driver of retailer engagement.

“This year’s winner has consistently excelled in Category Management over the last few years. Well done Diageo!”

Treasury Wine Estates won the Supply Chain Management award; while Most Improved Supplier was Asahi Premium Beverages.

“Treasury Wine Estates embarked on a proactive project to improve their supply chain engagements two years ago, an effort that has now been recognised across the industry,” McLoughlin said. “Congratulations on winning the Supply Chain Management award.”

Regarding Asahi, McLouglin noted: “This win has been driven by a strong intent and focus from the team to drive engagement with their retailer partners. Congratulations!”
