Vanguard Luxury Brands are bringing Fuji Single Grain Whiskey to Australia.
Situated at 234 feet above sea level, Mt Fuji Distillery’s location has its own microclimate and the distillery uses the snowmelt from Mt Fuji itself to craft the whisky.
Water is naturally filtered over decades resulting in pure, pristine water\perfect for distillation and used throughout the whisky production process. Its influence is integral to the Fuji style and flavour.
Mt Fuji’s Master Distiller and Blender, Jota Tanaka is only the second person to hold the position of Master Blender in Japan and last month was inducted into the Whisky Magazine Icons of Whisky Hall of Fame. Mr Tanaka has over 30 years’ experience in whisky making and has steered the whisky production at Mt Fuji Distillery since 2017.
“We have seen the demand for Japanese whisky skyrocket over the last decade which has driven scarcity and created a rush for people to try it before it was gone. We are so fortunate that we have been building a library of world class whiskies for decades and are excited to now be sharing this with Australia,” said Mr Tanaka.
Fuji Single Grain Whiskey was awarded a Gold Medal at the International Spirits Challenge 2020.
Established in 1973, Fuji Gotemba Distillery took a different approach to most other Japanese distilleries who followed Scottish methods for whisky making. Instead, Fuji looked to the various whisky making techniques from all major whisky making markets: America, Canada and Scotland.
This premium yet accessible expression of Japanese whisky is the blend of three types of grain whisky, each distilled using the three different methods and reflecting flavour profiles similar to Bourbon, Canadian and Scotch Whiskey.
Fuji Single Grain Whiskey is aged for between five to 21 years in ex-bourbon American oak, medium char.
It’s a multi-layered style of Japanese whisky, highlighting baked fruits, hints of white grape and orange zest, and a full-bodied mouthfeel.
Fuji Single Grain Japanese Whiskey is now available in Australia in May, retailing for $180 and with an ABV of 46 per cent. Available at all good liquor stores and bars, it is imported and distributed by Vanguard Luxury Brands.
