Sydney venue debuts dazzling Disney cocktails

A Sydney restaurant’s Disney-inspired degustation menu featuring matching cocktails has caught the imagination of media around the world.

The latest menu from chef Nelly Robinson from nel. in Surry Hills sees each course designed with one of his favourite childhood films in mind.

The menu starts with a Spoonful of Sugar and finishes with the Seven Moods of the Seven Dwarves, but the dish in nel.’s Once Upon a Time degustation that has everyone talking is his re-creation of Bambi’s Mum.

“I think everyone cried when Bambi’s mum got shot…. well, I know I did. I love these films from my childhood and know so many people who feel the same way, so I decided to create a one of a kind experience for my diners,” said Nelly. “For the ‘Bambi’s Mum’ course, we make the most of the situation by cooking the venison slowly, rolling it in peppers and serving with beetroot and parsnip.”

A nel. degustation would not be complete without a little extra theatre with each course, and for the Bambi’s Mum course, guests are provided with rifle casings with a mix of seeds to sprinkle on their dish.

The creativity isn’t reserved to the food menu either, with many of the drinks, including a selection of Disney cocktails, reflecting the theme.

The Disney cocktails include:

Chip Tea from nel.

Chip Tea, with tea infused pisco, mandarin, egg white, lemon and bitters spray.

Genie (pictured main), with Ink gin, Hypnotiq, lemon, Champagne and a lemon twist.

Pinocchio’s Soul at nel.

Pinocchio’s Soul, with pre mix, Vida, cinnamon syrup, bitters, finger lime and chilli cricket.

Snow White at nel.

And Snow White, with apple moonshine, chai syrup, Kahlua, nutmeg and cinnamon.
