Starward has brought back its limited release Ginger Beer Cask, following four previous successes. The fifth iteration of Starward’s Ginger Beer Cask uses Australian craft single malt whisky matured for 30 months in a ginger beer barrel.

On May 16, known to whisky aficionados as World Whisky Day, only 850 individuals will have the opportunity to purchase a bottle of the limited release Ginger Beer Cask.

Starward’s Head Distiller Sam Slaney explained: “What started as an experiment, has become a definite favourite in our limited release Project Series. Since we bottled the first cask in 2014, it’s proven to be a huge hit year after year amongst our whisky supporters, selling out within hours of being released. Therefore, a fifth batch was inevitable.

“For the fifth rendition of this liquid gold, we took our prized single malt, Starward Solera, and finished it for 30 months in a gingery barrel that previously held fiery ginger beer created by our dear friends at Boatrocker Brewery.

“The finished product of course carries the ginger flavour we adore, but also delivers a surprise sensory experience. You will smell orange and dark chocolate on the nose and strong spice, vanilla and fresh pineapple on the palate. Thanks to the maturation process, we have also been able to balance any flavour punches with sweet raisins and fig notes rounding out a bold, warming mouthfeel with candied ginger, citrus and sweet Apera.”

Given the high demand for this limited release, Starward has implemented a ballot system to purchase this unique expression, available in a 500mL bottle for RRP $119. Registration for the ballot is available via the website and will close May 14.

Following three successful weeks with Shannon Martinez’s divine Kung Pao Tofu paired with Millie’s Starward Two-Fold and Agave Collins recipe, Nick Stanton’s chocolate and whisky tart balanced by Millie’s Starward Nova Honey Espresso Martini to match and most recently, Tom Sarafian’s Hummus and Spiced Lamb dish paired with the Two-Fold Mint Buck cocktail – this week’s session promises to bring just as much flavour and flare!

Starward Whisky Brand Ambassador, Matty Follent said: “We started the Signature Home Sessions to keep the creativity of our incredible hospitality staff alight and alive. We have engaged numerous well-respected chefs from Melbourne to collaborate with us to create extraordinary taste explosions that anyone can try from home.

“While we know there are so many people struggling at this time, it’s important to support each other until we reach the other end. Following the Signature Home Sessions, Starward will also be purchasing numerous meals from each of the chef’s restaurants to be distributed to hospitality workers around Melbourne impacted by the current working conditions. Times are challenging, but we will all rise through this and we look forward to the day that we will be able to share a whisky with all of our hospitality friends and family together again.”
