Western Australian craft brewers Rocky Ridge have launched Ace Brands, a brewing and distribution business for international craft brands.

The business proposition is that in brewing locally, consumers are assured of the freshness of their favourite international brews and the impact on the environment is minimised.

“Importing craft beer doesn’t make a lot of sense,” said Ace Brands and Rocky Ridge owner Hamish Coates, “It’s well past its best by the time it gets consumed and the transportation involved generates a lot of greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change.

”With Ace Brands we want to apply the Rocky Ridge philosophy – making outstanding beer as sustainably as possible – to deliver local beer drinkers all the benefits of imported beer without any of the traditional downside.”

All beers produced by Ace Brands will be made in the Rocky Ridge brewery that is powered entirely by renewable energy. Packaging will be as eco-friendly as possible. For example, Ace will use compostable BioCane beer rings (made from reclaimed and rapidly renewable sugar cane pulp) instead of plastic.

Already working with Hong Kong-based label Gweilo, the company hopes to introduce additional brands to the market towards the middle of 2021.
