Penfolds has released its first Pinot Noir under the Max’s tier, further expanding the offering commemorating former Chief Winemaker, Max Schubert AM (pictured below).
Launched in 2016, Penfolds Max’s was created to celebrate one of Penfolds greatest legends, renowned for his innovative spirit, vision and determination.
Penfolds noted that its Max’s wines that are “charming in character, polished and carry an evenness and gloss”.
“They are contemporary, expressive and vibrant upon release,” the winemaker said. “These wines are immediately accessible but not without the assurance of more to come. Density of flavour without muscular structure is evident. Approachability is guaranteed with alluring fruit and supple tannin structure.”
Penfolds 2018 Max’s Pinot Noir exudes enticing aromatics, with exotic fruits of the forest leaping from the glass. Raspberry, black cherry, olive tapenade and oolong tea are framed by a subtle char-toast character. Hints of sea spray and a distinct Campari note linger.
The aromatics flow through to the palate, with fresh dark cherries and raspberries to the fore. Underlying subtle red spice, sumac and paprika complement rosemary and oregano herbaceous flavours. Quartz like acidity provides vibrancy, framed by fine “al dente” tannins.
Penfolds 2018 Max’s Pinot Noir is at peak drinking now until 2021, RRP: $35.
Penfold’s Max’s range also includes: • 2017 Max’s Shiraz RRP $35 • 2018 Max’s Chardonnay RRP $35 • 2017 Max’s Cabernet Sauvignon RRP $35.
The range is available in Australia now via www.penfolds.com and at select fine wine stores.
