The only place to be over the weekend was at the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Melbourne. And the best place to be in Melbourne on Friday night was Di Stasio Citta on Spring Street in the CBD for the Peroni Libera 0.0% and Aston Martin party.
The ultra-glam crowd were dolled up in black tie Italian glamour to celebrate the start of the Grand Prix, and more broadly, the return of big scale events. Actors David Wenham and Daniel McPherson were there along with Italian based Australian supermodel Shanina Shaik, Peroni brand ambassador for the past twelve years. Brisbane band Cub Sport were flown in for the evening’s entertainment performing four songs on the Peroni branded grand piano to a very lucky crowd.
Drinks Trade’s online and print editors were also guests of Peroni, generously flown down from Sydney and holed up at the newest coolest hotel in Melbourne, Hyatt Centric on Downie Street (just off Flinders Street).
Upon arrival at Di Stasio Citta on Friday evening, Drinks Trade were ushered to a perch at the bar thanks to the warm welcome from legendary maître d’, Mallory Wall, where we drank Champagne, watched the very watchable crowd and best of all, the skilled Di Stasio bar and floor team work their magic for the night. They were the stars of the night as far as we were concerned, pouring not only glasses of ice cold Peroni beers, wines and Champagnes but busy crafting all manner of delicious cocktails which were slipping easily down the hatches of many of the evening’s beauties.
After so long in lockdown, to be welcomed so warmly by Di Stasio’s skilled service team was such a treat and the plentiful servings of Italian food were too good to refuse. Delights included lightly battered anchovies, mini mini plates of spaghettini Bolognese and merendi (after school sandwiches – tiny mortadella and provolone toasties).
We dragged ourselves away late in the evening following Cub Sport’s performance to the Emerson Hotel in Prahran to see our friends from Idle Hour Vodka who have signed a three year sponsorship deal with the Grand Prix. On day one, organisers had already called on them to send ten more pallets of the Idle Hour Rye Vodka and Soda RTDs for delivery to the track.
Melbourne, it is great to see you’re back!
