New Brewery Lands on Adelaide Drinks Scene

Malt Fiction is the newest brewing venture to join the Adelaide drinks scene.

The three local entrepreneurs behind this new brewery are Jared Birbeck (also the owner of Birbeck’s Brewing), Peter Lynn and Antony Tropeano.

The name originates after the meaning of germinated grain – Malt, and the act of inventing or imaging – Fiction, which points to the direction Jared, Peter and Antony are hoping to take the brewery in; the three are hoping to change the way beer drinkers think about craft with better brews.

It was therefore timely to announce their first brew – a pale ale named 13 – alongside the reveal of Malt Fiction. The team at Malt Fiction say they’ve had an overwhelming amount of support for 13 already.

“13 is pale and inviting. Showcasing spicy and melon characteristics from the use of Australian summer hops. 13 has a clean, crisp finish from Australian wheat, backed with a light grainy malt flavour brewed from all Australian malt. 13 leaves drinkers with a light bitterness and fruity characteristics”, Jared said.

13 will be officially launched on Friday 13 March at an invite-only event at Adelaide pop-up venue – Laneway The Third – and will be entering into over 30 on- and off-premises across the city. 13 is also available to other venues nationally.

13 comes in a 330ml bottle with a 4.5% ABV (1.2 standards drinks per bottle). A carton retails for $66.50 (13 330ml bottle carton) and a bottle for $9, but prices may vary between venues. For more information or to stock 13, contact Peter Lynn – Director of Sales and Distribution (peter@majellawines.com.au).

Beer is currently being brewed under contract by Malt Fiction, with the aim of building a brewery in the area in the near future. Funds are currently being sourced for the build. Nevertheless, the team is hopeful for sales of 100,000 litres of beer over the next year and more beers are expected to be released by the brewery in coming months.
