Family-owned, South Australian winery, Millon Wines, is proud to announce the release of the 2020 Reserve Shiraz. Handcrafted to perfection, and made with passion and precision by Millon Estate’s Head Winemaker, Angus Wardlaw.

Born into winemaking, picking fruit and stomping on grapes as a child, Mr Wardlaw created his first vintage in 2009 in the Barossa Valley.

Working as Head Winemaker of Millon Estate has renewed his love for the Eden Valley region and his approach to winemaking is minimalist.

“I constantly endeavour to ensure that I capture the fruit characteristics of the vineyard, and of the variety that I’m making. I wish to encapsulate those characteristics, refine those characteristics, not overpower them with oak or other winemaking influences, but to let the fruit come forward,”

He says that the Reserve Shiraz showcases the varietals that perform best in both the Eden Valley and Barossa Valley.

“This range offers well balanced and truly exceptional representations of the regions,” he says.

Deep crimson in colour and rich in aromas of blackberries, raw cocoa and plums; the palate is layered with juicy red fruits, spice and integrated oak. The 2020 Reserve Shiraz is a textural and complex wine, showing great lengths and balance, with fine velvety tannins on the finish. Elegant, easy to drink, and perfect for sharing with family and friends.

This small parcel of Barossa Shiraz was handpicked, destemmed, and crushed into a one-tonne, open top fermenter with 30% whole bunch clusters. The fruit was held at 10-15 degrees for five days, before being allowed to warm and begin fermentation. After 20 days on skins and hand-plunged daily, the wines were pressed to 100% new French Oak puncheons, where they matured for 18 months. No fining or filtration was used on this wine.

“The wines are handcrafted from the vineyard to the winery allowing the fruit to shine and the wines to respect and reflect the vineyards and sub climates in which they come from. The result of this is wines that show great purity and depth,” says Mr Wardlaw.

Deriving from the Spanish word ‘millón’ meaning millions, Millon Wines hopes to inspire millions of toasts with family and friends, celebrating the dedication and heart of Millon Wines.
