Global drinks trade magazine Drinks International has named Australian whisky distillery Starward one of ‘The World’s Most Admired Whiskies 2023.’

It came in at number 15 and was the only Australian brand on the list.

The Melbourne-based distillery posted on Linked-In, “We’re thrilled to announce that Starward has been judged as number 15 in ‘The World’s Most Admired Whiskies 2023’ list by Drinks International.”

“To be the only Australian distillery recognised on the list is a huge testament to our team’s dedication to take our whisky to new horizons, and we couldn’t be more proud of them,” said the Starward team.

The annual World’s Most Admired Whiskies list is judged by an academy of independent experts who rate the world’s top whisky brands by quality, consistency, price point and branding.

Drinks International hailed the brand as a focal point of the New World Whiskey movement.

Created by David Vitale in 2007 to produce modern, affordable 100 per cent Australian whisky that speaks to place, Starward’s purpose-built distillery in Melbourne’s Docklands produces whisky aged in Apera and red wine casks from Victorian wine industry.

Drinks International wrote, “While Starwood’s small batch releases are some of the most progressive whiskies on the market, the brand’s quick rise to the top is also a success story for Diageo-backed incubation company Distilled Ventures.”

Shareholder of Starward, Diageo’s Distilled Ventures, made its initial investment in the new whisky business in 2015.
