Champagne native Yann Munier is set to take over as Cellar Master at Maison Mumm from the 8th of April following the tragic death of previous chef de cave Laurent Fresnet last year.

“I am proud to join Mumm which has always been an emblematic House of Champagne and am delighted to accompany its evolution in the years to come,” he said.

Munier is stepping into the new position following almost seven years as Cellar Master at the Coopérative Vinicole de la Vallée de la Marne (Covama) Marne Valley wine cooperative, a place where he first started his field career as head of vat room and oenologist from 2005 to 2012. Following this, Munier moved to Nicolas Fuillatte, where he was responsible for the vat room and bottling.

As Cellar Master, Munier will naturally assume the role of Maison Mumm’s primary brand ambassador, something that comes naturally to the Vitry-le-François third generation winemaker and grower. To this day, Yann and his sister operate the family estate, both producing their own cuvées and supplying grapes to Champagne houses, including Maison Mumm.

“More than a métier, champagne is for me above all a synonym for conviviality, pleasure and sharing,” said Munier.

Prior to his working career, Munier studied agronomy and agricultural engineering at the Institut Polytechnique UniLaSalle in Beauvais before obtaining his National Diploma of Oenology two years later at the University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne.

Maison Mumm have recently expanded their Asia Pacific presence with the 2022 release of Mumm Tasmania which followed on from the 2020 releases of Mumm Marlborough Brut Prestige and the Mumm Marlborough Vintage Rosé.
