Liquor Barons is to be the first independent retail banner group to offer a true scan data service utilising IRI-Aztec data.

Breaking grounds as the first independent retailer to do so, Liquor Barons has appointed IRI-Aztec as its data agent. This new relationship means that Liquor Barons scan data is now available through IRI-Aztec’s services and software suite to all suppliers, enabling suppliers to align their view of performance with Liquor Barons.

The function will, for the first time, provide suppliers with accurate scan read data from the independent liquor banner group. Before now, information of this kind has only ever been available from retail chains, Coles and Woolworths.

Chris O’Brien, General Manager of Liquor Barons told drinks bulletin: “This is really quite unique; in the Australian liquor industry today there is only Coles, Woolworths and now Liquor Barons that can provide the industry with a genuine scan read, as opposed to warehouse withdrawals on their market performance.”

“Liquor Barons as a group is very much going down the path of being the high technology, high compliance alternative and our members have very much been involved in the decision making processes to get us to this point and consequently understand the reasons that we need to be objective and measurable in what we do”, Mr. O’Brien also told drinks bulletin.

The banner group has been working to launch this new data function for a number of years while will allow Liquor Barons with Aztec-IRI to reveal its data from the last two years to suppliers.

“On 1 May, we’ll unload two years of our data history to anyone who subscribes and that again is fantastic news, because it means that anyone who subscribes is able to view this year’s performance from the last two years, from day one.”
