Henrys Legacy Freestone Cove has been awarded the prestigious World Whiskies Awards Best Australian Single Malt 2021.

Hellyers Road 15 Year Slightly Peated also had a win, named Category Winner in the 13–20-year category.

Hellyers Road Distillery General Manager Andy Bower said: “This team, and this brand, continue to amaze me. Determination, resilience combined with vision, art, craftsmanship and pride. You can almost taste it. They have done what no one deemed possible at the outset.’

Judges described both whiskies as “Brilliant” in their tasting notes.

“I agree: they are brilliant! And it repeats the success of previous years. Hellyers Road were category winners in 2020 and 2019. Typical of the team here, no fuss or fanfare they just move on to creating the next brilliant whisky. It’s like the best kept secret in town!” he said.

The Henry’s Legacy range commemorates the pioneering work done by Henry Hellyer, cartographer and explorer in the early years of the Van Diemen Land Company, who mapped and named so many places in the West, North-West and North Coast of Tasmania.

Freestone Cove is nestled between Table Cape and Fossil Bluff at Wynyard on the North West Coast.
