A whisky in Diageo’s Game of Thrones Single Malt Scotch Whisky Collection has come out on top at the prestigious San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2019.
Best Distillers’ Single Malt Scotch – Up to 12 years – went to Lagavulin 9 Year Old Game of Thrones “House Lannister”.
The San Francisco World Spirits Competition is one of the longest-running of its kind in the world, and recognises the most renowned international distillers as well as small-batch producers.
The collection was created to celebrate the eighth and final season of the critically-acclaimed TV series, Game of Thrones.
Diageo’s diverse range of distilleries in Scotland, like in Westeros, each have their own unique characteristics and produce a distinctive whisky representative of its local terroir.
These similarities were the inspiration behind the collection, drawing an authentic storyline between each House and single malt pairing.
“We’re excited that the Game of Thrones Single Malt Scotch Whisky Collection will be hitting shelves in more countries around the world,” said Pedro Mendonca, Global Reserve Marketing & Malts Director. “We are always trying to find fun and interesting ways to introduce our Scotch portfolio and what better way than partnering with Game of Thrones, one of the most successful TV series ever created.”
Game of Thrones House Lannister – Lagavulin 9 Year Old – has a RRP of $129.99 for 700ml; ABV 46%.
On April 14, Mjølner will be hosting Game of Thrones whisky tasting experiences in both its Sydney and Melbourne restaurants, giving Aussies a chance to win the award-winning Lagavulin whisky.
Each event at the Norse-inspired restaurants, which reflect the medieval-like show, will treat guests to a two hour tasting of the entire Game of Thrones whisky collection paired with a selection of artisanal charcuterie and cheeses.
Tickets start from $80 and are available via mjolner.com.au, limited availability applies.
The Game of Thrones Collection Single Malt Scotch Whisky Collection is available from liquor stores nationwide.
