Emperor Champagne has announced the launch of its new Rare Collection. The retailer said the luxury selection has been launched in response to the increased demand for more premium champagnes.

The Rare Collection features champagnes such as the Bollinger R.D. 2004 Magnum (1.5L) with Gift Box ($345), Louis Roederer Cristal Rosé 2009 ($745), to the Bollinger Special Cuvée Nebuchadnezzar (1.5L) with Gift Box, which retails for $4595.

Emperor Champagne reports a broader range of customers shopping online during COVID-19, with sales up 235% from April 2019.

The retailer has also sold many bottles of Champagne at the $1000 price point and had to list a new range of back vintage champagnes to keep up with demand from premium buyers.

Emperor Champagne CEO and Founder Kyla Kirkpatrick said: “It’s been interesting to receive feedback from a lot of our new customers who tell us this is the first time they have bought alcohol online.

“Our customers are spending more money on premium products because they aren’t spending money on premise like they normally do.”

IBA e-commerce champagne sales soar

IBA’s new e-commerce initiative, Shop MyLocal, reports a similiar uplift.

Moet & Chandon

Wine and Champagne combined present 50% of current sales, which Raff Palermo, Head of Digital Commerce & Loyalty says has been “fuelled a little by Mother’s Day activity”.

“Moet & Chandon is one particular brand in this category that has been noticed and popular, but as we speak a number of red wines are being searched as it is getting cooler,” he added.

“Spirits is roughly around 30% and beer around 20%. Interestingly, browsing and enquiries are skewing to more premium offers, as shoppers have the time to research and discover something new.”
