New Zealand’s award-winning Rochdale Cider is now being distributed through Dan Murphy’s in Australia. The family-owned brand, which uses only natural ingredients, is one of the country’s most popular ciders and its “honest” approach is also driving consumers to Rochdale in Australia according to the retailer.

The cider is gluten free and has no added sugars or preservatives, which makes this product on trend according to General Manager of Dan Murphy’s Campbell Stott.

According to Stott, consumers are continuing to be more conscious of where their products are sourced from and how they’re produced.

“They want to know what’s going on behind the scenes”, Stott says.

“Customers will often look to the label for more information and to help them make an informed choice.”

Rochdale Cider is brewed using pure glacial water from an ice age reservoir on site at the brewery, making it one of the purest ciders on the market, and it takes roughly ten seconds to note the ingredients in the bottle – water, pears/apples and yeast.

Dan Murphy’s is currently distributing Rochdale’s ‘Classic Apple’ and ‘Classic Pear’ ciders (RRP $22.99 per six-pack). The apple cider has crisp acidity that’s balanced by sweet apples, and on the finish there are notes of buttery vanilla. The Classic Pear has a smooth, soft and well-rounded style, with a taste that’s fresh and fruity, and slightly dry.

Rochdale Cider also produces Cloudy Apple, Ginger & Lime, Lemon Honey and Three Berries ciders. Stott says that new flavour combinations in the category are another particular “hit” with drinkers at the moment, so perhaps we’ll see these alongside classics on shelves in the not so distant future?

“Cider consumption continues to increase as consumers look to it as a refreshing alternative to beer and wine”, Stott added.

“Australia’s warm climate is an additional factor for the cider success story and the trend of food and drink matching, which increasingly points to cider flavours, makes cider a perfect go-to option for a backyard barbeque.”
