CUB’s Tap Torch relay has wrapped up its final leg in Western Australia in support of the CUB ‘For the Love of Your Local’ campaign.

Over the last week the relay travelled through South Australia stopping at the Exchange Hotel in Gawler and the Moseley Bar & Kitchen in Glenelg before making its way to the west coast.

CUB, in partnership with the AHA, has raised $2million with the campaign, which involves Aussies visiting loveofyourlocal.com.au and nominating their favourite local, then buying a pint of CUB beer using their credit card or PayPal account, with the cash going to the venue directly.

When they redeem their beer voucher, CUB matches the purchase with a free beer, meaning people get two-for-one pints after their local re-opens.

The relay follows The Pub Reopening Ceremony, which kicked off on June 10 at the CUB Brewery in Abbotsford.

CEO Peter Filipovic was joined by Mick Molloy and AFL legends Nick Dal Santo and Campbell Brown at the ceremony, to officially light the custom-made Tap Torch.

Following the lighting of the Tap Torch, Filipovic – dressed in an official beer-inspired tracksuit – officially passed the torch on for it to travel to the first stop of the relay at Melbourne institution The Espy.

From there, the torch travelled through Victoria before making its way to NSW, Queensland, WA and SA. The relay will also bring a free keg to every pub it visits.

Cobargo Hotel

Cobargo Hotel (above) publican Dave Allen told the Murray Valley Standard it was a nice promotion to help his pub out, as the region has been dealing with the double hit of the bushfires and COVID-19.

“It has been good, all the support we’ve got,” he said. “It’s been tough and still is tough on a lot of people who lost their houses, don’t have toilets and are living in caravans.

“Anything we can do to provide them with a bit of fun is worthwhile.”

The Red Lion Hotel

David Canny (above), owner of The Red Lion Hotel, told The Courier: “People have been fantastic – the support we’ve seen from our regulars, and across the hotel network in town, they’re loyal customers who want to support us.”
