Excitement is building for the 2019 Patrón Perfectionists Cocktail Competition with the announcement the creator of the iconic Tommy’s Margarita, Julio Bermejo, will be judging the national finals.
The San Francisco native and highly regarded tequila expert is the long-standing beverage manager at Tommy’s restaurant, which was named one of the World’s Top 50 Bars in the World in 2015 by Drinks International of London.
Bermejo will bring a wealth of tequila and bartending knowledge to the competition.
With only two weeks until entries to the competition close on July 31, Patrón Tequila is encouraging Australian and New Zealand bartenders to share their own Patrón cocktail recipe online at www.patronperfectionists.com to enter the competition.
Judged on the Patrón Tequila cocktail’s appearance, originality, service and flavour, the successful applicants will shake it out at their respective regional heats in NSW and South Australia this September. The five victors will then compete at the Australian and New Zealand Final in Melbourne on October 15 in front the panel of judges including Julio Bermejo.
The Tommy’s Margarita creator said: “The Patrón Perfectionists Cocktail Competition is the perfect opportunity for bartenders to demonstrate their skill, expertise and respect for 100% agave tequila which I am so passionate about. It’s been a long time since I was in Australia and I can’t wait to inspire and be inspired myself by up and coming talent from this side of the world!”
Entering the competition will provide bartenders with the chance to win a trip to Hacienda Patrón in Mexico in 2020 to compete in the Global Patrón Perfectionists Competition in front of a panel of distinguished judges.
Last year’s winner was Abby Wegener (above) from Adelaide’s Hades Hula House won the 2018 Australian Final with ‘The Muldejewangk’ – Patrón Silver, Patrón Reposado, lime juice, Quandong Curacao, desert lime puree and simple syrup.
