Leading blended Scotch whisky, Chivas, has added the newest blend to its portfolio – The Chivas Extra 13YO Oloroso Sherry cask.
Replacing the previous Chivas Extra, the 13 Sherry Cask is the latest addition to the new 13YO collection, which includes the Australian exclusive Chivas Extra 13 American Rye Cask, with more flavours still to come.
The new 13-year-old is inspired by pioneering whisky blenders and founding brothers James and John Chivas who imported rums, exotic spices, and luxury food items from across the globe to their emporium at 13 King Street, Aberdeen. The additional cask brought into the maturation or finishing process imparts its own unique combination of characteristics onto the Chivas blend, bringing a number of new flavour notes to the spirit for the first time, whilst still having the fruitiness and floral notes of the original Chivas Extra.
The Chivas Extra 13 Oloroso Sherry Cask is made from selective Oloroso Sherry cask maturation and delivers a richer finish, with hints of sweet ripe pears in syrup, vanilla caramel, cinnamon sweets and almonds.
Sandy Hyslop, Director of Blending at Chivas, said: “The Extra 13 collection represents new territory for Chivas as we continue to open up the world of Scotch whisky to new audiences and fresh experiences. At Chivas we believe that blended is better – and nowhere is this more evident than with our new collection, which blends exceptional Scotch with a diverse, internationally-inspired palette of flavours.”
With each new expression featuring artwork by renowned street artist Greg Gossel, Chivas has once again pushed the boundaries of traditional Scotch whisky with a fresh approach to pack design – blending images from its history with graffiti inspired designs celebrating each finishing cask’s vibrant heritage.
As drinkers become increasingly interested in bolder flavours, summer is the perfect time to mix and create new flavour experiences which will deliver greater enjoyment to existing whisky fans and attract new people to the exciting world of Scotch. With the Chivas Extra 13 Highball serve, drinkers will notice that the fruitiness and sweetness of the original Chivas Extra has been intensified with rich notes of orchard fruits and sultanas, dialling up the intensity of flavours.
The Chivas 13 Oloroso Sherry Cask is available now and retails for $71.99.
