A local water producer has received interest from a number of Chinese craft breweries after it was awarded a gold medal at the 5th China International High-end Drinking Water Industry Expo 2016.
Managing Director of PH8, Kym Dickeson, told The Lead South Australia that the award has sparked conversations with a number of Chinese craft breweries who are looking to increase the quality of their craft beers by using their water.
China’s thirst for craft beers has grown over the last few years and the country is set to become the world’s highest value beer market next year.
“China at the present time are accepting beer in a big way, there are breweries interested in quality water. That’s one of the things we are talking about,” Dickeson said.
“The Chinese are looking for anything that is Western and quality. They search far and wide for fresh products, fresh milks, because it is sometimes hard to get there.”
PH8 is a high alkaline water that has been filtered naturally through black limestone in South Australia. The water contains high amounts of potassium, calcium and magnesium, which all lend to a good quality beer.
With water constituting around 90 per cent of the total ingredients in beer, it’s not surprising that these brewers are paying more attention to where they source their water from.
